- Work arrangement
- Senior · permanent full-time
- Field travel
- Selected Australian survey campaigns by agreement · some night work
- Salary
- A$180,000–A$210,000 per year
Position overview
- Take UAV magnetic, LiDAR and terrain data from field acquisition through quality control, processing and reviewed deliverables.
- Apply geological and geophysical judgement to products used for mineral-exploration interpretation and target evaluation.
- Work within BlueCap’s geophysical processing function and coordinate directly with field crews and project management.
- Improve repeatable QA/QC and processing methods within BlueCap’s connected project environment.
Employment and location
- This is a permanent full-time senior position based in Gold Coast, Queensland.
- The annual base-salary range is A$180,000–A$210,000, with the final offer determined by relevant capability and experience.
- Selected Australian field visits are planned as part of the role. They are not required for every survey or complete mobilisation.
- Some agreed field campaigns include night operations and work in regional or remote locations.
Key responsibilities
- Magnetic data: complete field QA/QC, tie-line review, profiles, maps, RTP/RA and other agreed processing before specialist review and release.
- LiDAR and terrain data: support alignment, filtering, classification, tiling, layering, DTM/DSM generation and accuracy verification.
- Operational elevation products: prepare terrain and elevation data used for analysis, survey planning and ArduPilot mission workflows.
- Interpretation support: integrate geology and relevant project information, contribute to inversions where appropriate and communicate the limits of each result.
- Reproducible processing: document inputs, parameters, checks, versions, exceptions and review decisions clearly.
- Field-to-office feedback: work with the survey team so acquisition issues are identified early and corrected while action is still practical.
- Workflow improvement: help improve scripts, notebooks, automated checks, reporting and data-delivery procedures.
BlueCap’s connected processing environment
- Survey Portal: flight geometry, telemetry, acquisition evidence, QA status and client delivery remain attached to the project.
- Cloud post-processing: standard magnetic products can be generated quickly while geophysicists retain review and release responsibility.
- LiDAR processing: preview, alignment, filtering, classification, DTM, DSM and tiled delivery share the source project record.
- AI-assisted QA: models help flag patterns, anomalies and inconsistencies for investigation; they do not sign off the data.
- Our own development: BlueCap controls the workflow around acquisition, processing and delivery, so useful improvements can be implemented without waiting for an unrelated software vendor.
Essential selection criteria
- At least 3 years of relevant applied experience in mineral exploration, geophysics, geology, spatial-data processing, technical surveying or comparable project work.
- A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent professional experience, in geology, geophysics, earth science, geomatics or a closely related quantitative discipline.
- Demonstrated experience taking geoscience or spatial data through documented QA/QC, processing and a reviewed technical output.
- Practical experience with LiDAR point clouds, terrain models or comparable large spatial datasets, including quality and accuracy checks.
- Applied quantitative skills in filtering, signal processing, statistics, uncertainty and data-quality assessment.
- Professional use of at least one geospatial or geophysical processing environment and one scripting, numerical or reproducible-analysis workflow.
- Clear technical English for team communication, project records and explanations to geologists, geophysicists and clients.
- Australian work rights and availability for commitments agreed in advance.
Desirable experience and tools
- QGIS, Oasis montaj, MATLAB or Python with NumPy, SciPy, pandas or notebooks.
- PDAL, LAStools, CloudCompare, PyVista, PyGIMLi, UBC-GIF or VOXI.
- ArduPilot, Pixhawk, RTK GNSS, dual-antenna yaw, IMU or PPK workflows.
- Livox LiDAR, QuSpin QTFM Gen 2 or other airborne geophysical sensors.
- Geostatistics, inversion, anomaly detection, machine learning and geological data integration.
- Mountainous or forested terrain, remote operations or night acquisition.
Candidates do not need to match every desirable tool. BlueCap assesses the underlying processing judgement, evidence of delivered work and ability to learn the company-specific workflow.
Field travel and UAV experience
- Drone-pilot experience and a Remote Pilot Licence are not required. Certified BlueCap crews remain responsible for aircraft operations.
- Selected field visits connect processing decisions with acquisition conditions and allow direct exchange with pilots, technicians and geophysicists.
- Field participation is agreed separately and may include regional travel, periods away from home, night operations, uneven ground, heat, dust and isolated locations.
- Candidates must be able to meet applicable site, medical, safety and fitness-for-work requirements for each agreed deployment, with reasonable adjustments considered where they enable the inherent requirements to be performed safely.
- BlueCap provides approved project travel, suitable accommodation, meals, field equipment and operational support.
Remuneration and opportunity
- Permanent full-time annual base salary of A$180,000–A$210,000.
- Approved project travel, suitable accommodation, meals, field equipment and operational support are provided for agreed field campaigns.
- Eligible projects may attract performance-based incentives linked to contribution, quality, delivery and client acceptance.
- After sustained performance as a core-team contributor, BlueCap may discuss an individually negotiated long-term option pathway. Any option remains discretionary and subject to separate written company, legal and tax terms.
- The role provides direct influence over the tools and workflow used to process, review and release survey data.
Data and compliance
- NDA and strict data custody apply; the client owns its project data.
- Missions are flown by certified crews under applicable aviation requirements.
- Experienced BlueCap geophysicists remain responsible for final QC, interpretation and every released deliverable.
How we hire
- Applications are assessed against the same published essential criteria using the CV and two or three examples of work the candidate personally completed or materially contributed to.
- Shortlisted candidates complete the same short, time-bounded exercise using a sample magnetic or LiDAR dataset. It is an assessment task, not unpaid client production work.
- A structured technical interview covers processing choices, QA/QC, uncertainty, geological reasoning and communication of results.
- Reference conversations are conducted for the preferred candidate or candidates with their knowledge.
- Final salary within the published range and permanent full-time employment terms are confirmed in writing before onboarding.
BlueCap welcomes qualified applicants from different backgrounds. Candidates may request reasonable adjustments or an accessible equivalent format for the application, technical exercise, interview or inherent requirements of the role.
